New York, NY – Storms are expected to drench New York City beginning Sunday night, with the National Weather Service predicting up to an inch of rain and possible thunderstorms through Monday evening.

According to the NWS, an 80% chance of showers and storms arrives after 8 p.m. Sunday, with the heaviest rainfall falling between 2 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday. Rainfall amounts may exceed three-quarters of an inch, particularly in thunderstorms. Travel along I-87 and major NYC roadways may be impacted by ponding, poor visibility, and localized flash flooding. Officials urge commuters to allow extra time and avoid water-covered roads.

Highs will fall to 62°F Monday, with wind gusts up to 15 mph, followed by continued showers into Monday night with an 80% chance of precipitation. Expect slick conditions into Tuesday morning. Thunderstorms may return Tuesday afternoon, especially after 2 p.m., with another 80% rain chance.

By midweek, skies gradually clear, though scattered showers remain possible into Thursday. The city can expect a drier pattern by Friday with sunshine returning.
