Buffalo, N.Y. – Storms sweeping across western and north-central New York Thursday could bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall, especially along and ahead of a fast-moving cold front.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, showers and thunderstorms will intensify through the day and into tonight across counties including Erie, Genesee, Wayne, and Oswego. The strongest storms may produce wind gusts over 40 mph and brief downpours capable of localized flooding.

Communities from Chautauqua to Lewis counties should prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Low-lying roads and urban areas may experience brief street flooding, particularly during rush hours. Friday brings renewed storm chances, with another round of showers expected to linger into the weekend. The NWS warns some cells could again drop heavy rainfall, potentially overwhelming storm drains or small creeks.

Residents are advised to avoid driving through flooded roads and secure outdoor objects. Power outages are possible in spots where winds are strongest.

Storm activity is expected to diminish Friday night, but more advisories could follow if rainfall totals climb. Keep alerts enabled and check for updates from local emergency management.
