Binghamton, NY – Residents in Binghamton and the surrounding areas should brace for a day of scattered showers and cooling temperatures as a weather system moves through north-central New York. According to the National Weather Service, lake effect showers are expected to persist throughout the day, expanding further into central New York by afternoon and evening. With temperatures only reaching the low 60s today, the forecast advises those planning to travel or engage in outdoor activities to keep umbrellas and rain gear handy.

The showers, which began early Wednesday, are anticipated to linger into the overnight hours, bringing temperatures down to the mid-30s to low 40s. Winds will shift to the west-northwest later this afternoon, potentially increasing the coverage and intensity of showers, especially in areas south into northeast Pennsylvania. According to the forecast, motorists on highways, including Route 17, should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads due to intermittent rainfall.

Looking ahead, the week will see fluctuating weather patterns. Thursday may start with some residual showers, but skies are expected to clear by afternoon, with highs reaching the low 50s. Friday promises sunny skies with temperatures slightly warmer, approaching 66 degrees. However, another system may bring additional showers over the weekend, particularly on Saturday night and Sunday, with lows continuing to dip into the 40s.
