Albany, N.Y. – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will persist across upstate New York today, especially north of the mid-Hudson Valley, as a slow-moving upper-level system keeps the region unsettled.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, clouds will dominate skies across much of eastern New York and western New England. Areas along and north of I-90—including Glens Falls, Old Forge, and Herkimer—face the highest chance of rainfall, with a lower risk expected south toward I-84 and the lower Hudson Valley. Rain chances are expected to taper gradually later this afternoon.

Cities like Albany, Cobleskill, and Pittsfield could see brief downpours, while higher terrain near the Adirondacks and Green Mountains may hear a few rumbles of thunder. Daytime highs will range from the upper 50s in Old Forge to the low 70s near Poughkeepsie, roughly in line with early May averages.

Drivers should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility in heavier pockets of rain. Keep umbrellas and rain jackets handy, especially north of Albany. If thunder roars, head indoors—lightning remains a threat even during brief storms.

Conditions will begin to improve overnight, but additional showers are possible midweek as the system slowly exits the region.
