Albany, N.Y. – Clouds are thickening across the Capital Region Tuesday as a storm system pushes north, bringing a chance of afternoon rain to areas near the I-84 corridor, including Poughkeepsie and Newburgh.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rain is expected to begin in the southern part of the region by late afternoon, moving gradually northward. The highest likelihood of precipitation is concentrated along the I-84 corridor between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., while areas farther north like Glens Falls and Saratoga Springs may stay mostly dry through evening. High temperatures will run near to slightly above normal, with Albany expected to reach 76°F and Poughkeepsie close to 80°F.

Drivers along I-87 and Route 9 should plan for reduced visibility and slick roads during the evening commute. Local officials recommend allowing extra travel time and using headlights in low-visibility areas. Residents are also advised to secure outdoor items ahead of possible wind gusts.

Though no severe weather is currently expected, more unsettled conditions could develop later this week. Another system may bring stronger storms to the region by Thursday. Updates will be issued as new data comes in.
