New York, NY – A powerful cold front is set to move through the region late Monday, bringing the potential for severe thunderstorms across New York City and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service, storms are expected to begin developing around 4 p.m. Monday, March 31, and may last through approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday. The most significant threats include damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Isolated tornadoes are also possible, especially in areas west of the city like Paterson and Newburgh, which face a Level 2 (Slight Risk) threat.
Storms will build in the Lower Hudson Valley before pushing eastward into New York City, Long Island, and parts of southern Connecticut. Locations such as Yonkers, Stamford, and Islip fall under a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) threat, where storms could still intensify but remain more isolated in nature.
Residents are urged to monitor forecasts, charge devices, and prepare to take shelter if warnings are issued. Outdoor plans should be rescheduled or moved indoors as a precaution.
