Binghamton, NY – Clear skies will give Binghamton residents a rare shot at spotting the Aurora Borealis Sunday night, just before a classic June warm-up begins.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions will remain mostly clear through early Monday, with a high of 72°F and calm winds expected by afternoon. Skies will stay clear enough Sunday night for much of upstate New York—including Broome and Tioga counties—to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights, which may be visible as far south as Alabama due to strong geomagnetic activity.

Visibility could be limited in some areas by haze from lingering Canadian wildfire smoke, so those hoping to see the aurora should head to dark, open areas away from city lights. Route 17 travelers west of Binghamton may have some of the clearest views late Sunday into early Monday.

After Monday’s calm weather, temperatures will rise sharply. Tuesday brings full sun and a high of 83°F, followed by 89°F and increased humidity Wednesday. Scattered June thunderstorms are possible Thursday and Friday, with rain chances reaching 70% by week’s end. Showers could impact the evening commute and cause minor delays on major roads like I-81 and Route 11.

Prepare now for a hot, unsettled stretch beginning midweek—charge devices, stay hydrated, and plan for potential power flickers during thunderstorms.
