Binghamton, NY – Drivers across New York should brace for heavy rain and possible flash flooding by early Tuesday morning as storms move in. Thunderstorms packing intense downpours may hit between midnight and 8 a.m., increasing the risk of road flooding near rivers and creeks, especially in the Binghamton area.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, locally heavy rainfall Monday night into Tuesday could produce up to half an inch of rain, raising the potential for flash flooding in poor drainage areas. Commuters along I-81, NY-17, and other low-lying routes should plan for slower travel and possible detours.

Cities including Ithaca, Cortland, and Elmira could also see early morning storm impacts. Residents are urged to avoid driving through standing water and secure outdoor items ahead of Monday night. Spotter activation is not expected, but officials continue to monitor river levels closely.

By Tuesday night, conditions will dry out briefly before sunny skies and warmer temperatures return midweek. However, more scattered showers are possible late Thursday and into the weekend.
