Albany, N.Y. – Scorching heat will blanket eastern New York on Sunday as temperatures soar into the mid-90s with dangerous humidity levels. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from noon to 8 p.m., warning that the heat index could reach 98 to 99 degrees in parts of the Capital Region.

According to the NWS Albany office, the advisory covers Eastern Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, Troy, Glens Falls, and surrounding areas. Light winds and clear skies will offer little relief as hot, stagnant air settles across the region. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

I-87 from Albany to Saratoga Springs will be among the major corridors affected. Travel is not advised during peak afternoon hours unless necessary. Heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion or stroke can occur quickly, especially for those working or exercising outdoors.

Sunday’s spike in heat follows a relatively mild Saturday. Looking ahead, temperatures stay high through Monday, with thunderstorm chances returning Monday afternoon and evening.
