Binghamton, N.Y. – New Yorkers across the Southern Tier and Central regions will feel the first taste of summer this week as highs climb into the upper 80s and low 90s by Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, today marks the start of a warm stretch, with Tuesday’s highs reaching the low to mid-80s from Elmira (84°F) to Syracuse (83°F) and Binghamton (81°F). The heat intensifies Wednesday, with cities like Penn Yan, Hornell, and Montrose potentially touching 90°F. Sunny skies will dominate, though hazy conditions are expected due to lingering smoke from Canadian wildfires.
From Williamsport to Utica, and across counties including Broome, Chemung, and Tioga, residents should stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially in the late afternoon. Though the air remains dry today and Wednesday, conditions turn more unsettled by Thursday with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon.
Cooling centers may become a resource for vulnerable groups if temperatures approach heat advisory levels later in the week. Air quality could also dip in some areas due to haze.
This early June heat wave holds through midweek. A more stormy pattern returns Thursday afternoon.
