Buffalo, NY – A midweek storm system is expected to bring rainfall and rising temperatures to western and central New York, increasing the risk of flooding due to ice jams and snowmelt. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the region, warning of potential river and creek flooding from Tuesday night through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the greatest flooding concerns are in the Buffalo area creeks and Cattaraugus Creek, where ice jams may form as melting snow and rain increase water flow. Other locations across western and north-central New York could also see similar risks.

In northern New York and Vermont, the National Weather Service in Burlington has noted a moderate chance of river flooding, especially late Wednesday into Thursday. Ice jams remain a primary concern as thawing conditions accelerate.

Meanwhile, in central New York and northeastern Pennsylvania, the National Weather Service in Binghamton has warned that a storm system tracking into the Great Lakes will bring additional rain and warming temperatures midweek, heightening the flood threat in areas with significant snowpack.

Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant and monitor local weather updates. Officials advise clearing storm drains, preparing emergency kits, and avoiding flooded roadways. The latest alerts can be found at weather.gov.
