Binghamton, N.Y. – A strong cold front will sweep southeast across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania Monday afternoon, triggering scattered thunderstorms and possible flash flooding from Binghamton to the Finger Lakes.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, the front will collide with a hot, humid air mass, producing slow-moving storms capable of heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding. The greatest threat is expected Monday between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., especially in low-lying areas and along creeks and rivers.

In cities like Ithaca, Elmira, and Cortland, damaging wind gusts may accompany stronger cells. The Finger Lakes region faces the greatest wind risk, with isolated gusts over 50 mph possible. Drivers on I-81 and I-88 should plan for rapidly changing conditions and ponding on roads. Residents are urged to avoid flooded streets and secure loose outdoor items.

Meanwhile, in New York City, scattered thunderstorms and muggy conditions will continue through midweek. Highs will reach into the upper 80s and low 90s Tuesday before slightly cooler air settles in Wednesday.

Storms could continue into Tuesday in parts of the region. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall rates increase.
