Binghamton, NY – A cold front is set to bring widespread rain to the Binghamton area on Tuesday, posing challenges for commuters and Thanksgiving travelers. Cooler temperatures will follow midweek, with a potential storm impacting Thanksgiving Day plans.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to start early Tuesday and continue into the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph, making travel along major routes like I-81 and Route 17 potentially hazardous. Drivers are urged to exercise caution during peak rainfall periods. Highs will reach the low 50s on Tuesday before dipping to the low 30s overnight.

By Wednesday, skies will clear, and highs will settle in the mid-40s. However, rain is forecast to return late Wednesday night, leading into Thanksgiving, when an 80% chance of rain is predicted. Travel disruptions may occur, especially as temperatures drop Thursday night, increasing the likelihood of rain transitioning to snow.

The extended forecast shows colder conditions persisting into the weekend. Friday could bring snow showers with highs around 40 degrees, while Saturday and Sunday remain chilly with a continued chance of snow.

Residents should monitor updates and prepare for wet conditions Tuesday and Thursday. Travelers heading out for the holiday should plan for delays and check road conditions.
