Binghamton, NY – A cold front is sweeping through New York today, bringing widespread rain and the potential for lake-effect snow by Wednesday night. Travelers along I-81 and I-88 should prepare for slick conditions and possible delays during peak holiday travel hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, steady rain will continue into Tuesday morning before tapering off to partly sunny skies. High temperatures today will reach around 51°F, but colder air will move in tonight, dropping lows to the mid-30s.
By Wednesday, daytime highs will peak at 45°F under partly sunny skies. However, the real concern begins Wednesday night, when a wintry mix of rain and snow is forecast. Areas along higher elevations and the southern Tug Hill region could see light snowfall accumulation. Winds could gust up to 21 mph, potentially making travel more hazardous.
Thanksgiving Day will bring rain throughout the morning, with temperatures hovering near 42°F. Those driving during the holiday should remain alert for wet roadways and reduced visibility.
Looking ahead, Thursday night and Friday may see additional snow showers as temperatures dip to a high of 39°F. By Saturday, the region will dry out with partly sunny skies and a high near 35°F.
Travelers are urged to monitor updated forecasts and plan routes with extra travel time to avoid delays. Motorists should also carry winter preparedness kits, especially for trips into northern or elevated regions.
