Binghamton, N.Y. – Showers and a slight chance of thunder are moving across Central and Southern New York this afternoon, with isolated storms possible west of I-81 through 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a warm front is triggering rain across the Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, and surrounding counties, with the highest chances near Syracuse (74%), Auburn (74%), and Ithaca (68%). Thunder is most likely west of I-81, although severe weather is not expected.

Cities like Elmira, Penn Yan, and Hornell are also seeing elevated rain chances, with temperatures climbing into the mid-60s by late afternoon. Binghamton and Montrose may remain mostly dry, with only a 42–33% chance of rain through tonight.

Motorists should use caution on wet roads, especially during the evening commute. If thunder is heard, move indoors immediately and avoid open areas.

A weak cold front will shift through late tonight, ending most rain by early Tuesday. Overnight lows will stay mild, in the upper 40s to low 50s. Dry, warmer weather returns Tuesday and is expected to last into the weekend.

More updates are expected if thunderstorms develop later today.v
