Binghamton, N.Y. – Temperatures across upstate New York are surging into the upper 80s and even low 90s this week, with cities like Corning, Ithaca and Owego likely to hit 90°F by Wednesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a ridge of high pressure is delivering dry, stable conditions through midweek. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring widespread highs in the mid to upper 80s, with spots like Scranton, Syracuse and Elmira climbing into the high 80s. Corning and Ithaca are among the hottest, expected to reach 90°F on Wednesday.
Cities from Wilkes-Barre to Oneonta and Hancock will also see a sharp warm-up, with highs pushing into the mid-80s. Roads, especially along I-81 and Route 17, may experience heat-related wear. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor work during peak hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors or pets. Schools without air conditioning could also see heat-related impacts by midweek.
The pattern shifts Thursday, when a cold front brings the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region. Highs will remain warm, but humidity will rise significantly ahead of the front.
More updates are expected Tuesday evening as thunderstorm timing becomes clearer.
