Buffalo, NY – Temperatures across western and central New York surged into the upper 80s and low 90s Wednesday, marking the hottest day of 2025 so far for the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, widespread highs from 85°F to 90°F are being recorded across cities like Buffalo (89°), Rochester (89°), Jamestown (86°), and Watertown (85°), though the heat remains dry and not overly humid. A strong cold front is expected to move in late Wednesday night, bringing cooler air and a renewed threat of severe weather by Thursday afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Thursday, with a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms in eastern and southeastern counties including Geneva, Fulton, and Highmarket. Damaging winds and brief heavy downpours are the primary hazards, with isolated stronger cells possible between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Residents should prepare for quick changes in weather, secure outdoor items, and avoid flooded roads during any heavy rainfall. While temperatures will dip behind the front, the brief heat spike serves as a reminder that summer conditions have arrived.

More storm watches may be issued Thursday morning as models continue to evolve.
