New York – Headlights glow through thick fog and damp pavement turns slick across Binghamton this morning, where near-freezing temperatures are already creating patchy ice on bridges and overpasses. Visibility shifts quickly, and drivers along I-81 and Route 17 are hitting pockets of mist that cut sightlines in seconds.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, visibility has dropped to around 2.5 miles with areas of dense fog, while temperatures hover near 35°F. Elevated surfaces remain the biggest concern, where moisture and colder air allow thin ice to form through early morning hours.

Conditions improve slightly by late morning as skies brighten and temperatures climb toward 48°F. Still, the day starts slow for commuters. Plan extra time and avoid sudden braking on ramps and bridges.

By Sunday afternoon, steadier rain develops with an 80% chance, soaking roads and setting up a sharp temperature drop. That shift becomes critical by Sunday night, when rain mixes with snow as temperatures fall to near 31°F. Slushy patches may begin forming on untreated roads.

Monday stays colder, with highs near 39°F and scattered snow showers lingering. Gusty winds up to 20 mph add a biting feel and could reduce visibility at times. By Monday night, temperatures dip to 24°F, increasing the risk of flash freezing where moisture remains.

Tuesday offers a break with sunshine and a high near 46°F, but clouds return midweek with more mixed precipitation possible.

Keep a close eye on changing conditions through Sunday night into Monday. Traveling later today? Are you seeing fog or slick spots where you are?

Five Day Outlook for Binghamton, New York:
Sunday: High 61°F, rain developing late
Monday: High 39°F, snow showers likely
Tuesday: High 46°F, mostly sunny
Wednesday: High 47°F, partly sunny
Thursday: High 52°F, rain/snow mix possible
