Albany, N.Y. – Isolated severe thunderstorms could hit eastern New York this afternoon through late Tuesday, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts and hail up to 1 inch in diameter. Cities including Albany, Saratoga Springs, and Poughkeepsie fall within a Marginal Risk zone for severe weather, prompting residents to stay alert.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the risk extends from early Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Thunderstorms developing ahead of an upper-level low may drop locally heavy rainfall and carry enough energy to cause minor wind damage or hail across the Capital Region, the Mohawk Valley, and the Hudson Valley.

Localized impacts may include slick roadways during evening commutes and minor power outages due to downed limbs or tree debris. Outdoor events and travel plans may be disrupted, especially along I-87 and I-90 corridors. Officials urge residents to secure loose objects and monitor alerts.

This system is expected to move out overnight, but additional updates are possible if storms intensify. A slight tornado threat cannot be ruled out but remains low.
