New York, NY – A wind advisory remains in effect today for the entire Tri-State area, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, warns of hazardous conditions likely to impact drivers and outdoor activities through Thursday evening.
According to the NWS, the advisory began at 3 p.m. Wednesday and continues until 10 p.m. Thursday. Strong west winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph could knock down tree limbs, damage power lines, and create driving hazards on major roadways like I-95 and the Long Island Expressway. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and use extra caution while traveling, especially in high-profile vehicles.
The storm that swept through New York late Tuesday brought frequent lightning, small hail, and heavy rain, creating slippery conditions in parts of the region. Forecasters expect calmer weather by Friday, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s. However, temperatures will dip this weekend, with lows near freezing and breezy conditions persisting.
Thursday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies but continued windy conditions, with gusts topping 48 mph. Friday night is expected to be partly cloudy, with temperatures falling to 29°F. Weekend highs will hover in the mid-30s with bright skies and reduced wind speeds, offering relief for outdoor activities.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and take precautions to stay safe. Visit weather.gov for the latest information.
