Albany, NY – Snow is expected to move into the Albany region today, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions and a sharp drop in temperatures for the weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that light snowfall, combined with cold winds, will make for slippery roads and icy surfaces, particularly during tonight’s and Saturday morning’s commute.
According to the NWS in Albany, snow is likely to begin this afternoon, with accumulation ranging from 1 to 3 inches in most areas, including Albany, Glens Falls, and Cobleskill. By Saturday morning, temperatures will fall to around 22°F, and gusty winds may cause icy spots, especially along I-87 and local roads. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.
Saturday’s Forecast:
Expect cloudy skies with lingering snow flurries in the morning and highs near 24°F. Winds of up to 23 mph will make it feel much colder. Saturday night will bring clearer skies, but temperatures are forecast to plummet to a frigid 6°F, with wind chills as low as -5°F.
Sunday and Beyond:
Sunny skies will return Sunday, though temperatures will remain cold, with a high of 17°F. Overnight lows will dip to around 2°F. Monday and Tuesday will bring a slight warm-up, with highs reaching 25°F and 32°F, respectively. A chance of snow showers is expected Monday night into Tuesday.
Residents should plan for icy sidewalks, bundle up for the cold, and monitor weather updates for any changes.
