Albany, NY – A significant shift in the weather is set to bring snow, rain, and cold temperatures to Albany and surrounding areas this weekend. A hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service warns of accumulating wet snow and potentially hazardous driving conditions. The southern Greens of Vermont and northwest Connecticut are expected to see light to moderate snow accumulation, with sleet and freezing rain mixed in briefly.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm system will continue into Sunday, with the heaviest precipitation expected in the mountains and higher elevations. Winter weather advisories may be issued if snowfall amounts increase and the likelihood of wintry mixed precipitation rises. These conditions are particularly concerning for travelers along major routes like Interstate 87 and Interstate 90, where slippery roads could form quickly after dark.

The weather system is expected to clear by Sunday afternoon, but colder temperatures will linger through the early week. On Sunday, Albany’s high will reach 53°F, followed by a partly sunny Monday with a high of 60°F. The extended forecast shows a chance of rain on Monday evening, with temperatures dipping back to 48°F.

Looking ahead to the week, expect more unsettled weather on Tuesday with temperatures in the upper 50s. By Thursday, conditions will stabilize, though a slight chance of rain remains.

Five-Day Forecast for Albany:

  • Saturday: Snow and rain, high of 41°F
  • Sunday: Mostly cloudy, high of 53°F
  • Monday: Partly sunny, high of 60°F
  • Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, high of 58°F
