Buffalo, New York – Western New York drivers could face slick conditions Friday night as widespread showers move into the Buffalo region ahead of the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, dry and mild spring weather will hold through midweek, with sunny skies and highs near 72°F by Thursday. But by late Friday, moisture will surge back into Erie County, bringing a 70% chance of rain after 2 p.m. that may impact visibility and road traction, particularly along I-90 and Route 33.

After a calm Wednesday with sunshine and a high near 62°F, and a mild Thursday night low of 52°F, Friday’s rain will mark a noticeable change. Commuters should plan for wet pavement, especially on highways near Buffalo, Tonawanda, and Cheektowaga. Light winds may not ease rain’s effect on travel. If possible, avoid evening drives or allow extra time during peak hours.

Saturday continues the wet pattern with a 30% chance of showers before 2 p.m., and highs cooling to the upper 50s. Sunday’s skies clear again with highs around 58°F—perfect for outdoor plans or cleanup after the rain.

  • Friday: Showers likely after 2 p.m., high 72°F
