Binghamton, NY – Snow squalls sweeping through central New York and northern Pennsylvania early Tuesday are creating hazardous travel conditions, with visibility dropping to near zero. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued snow squall warnings for several counties, effective until 8 a.m.
According to NWS Binghamton, a dangerous snow squall was detected near North Blenheim and Greater Binghamton Airport, moving southeast at 30 mph. Winds gusting up to 35 mph and sudden bursts of heavy snow are causing blowing snow and slippery roads.
Key locations impacted include Oneonta, Sidney, Walton, and Delhi in New York, as well as Towanda, Canton, and Montrose in Pennsylvania. Interstate 86/Route 17 and Interstate 81 are among the highways affected.
Travelers are advised to delay trips or proceed with caution, reducing speed and using headlights. Whiteout conditions may occur, increasing the risk of accidents.
