Binghamton, NY – A line of thunderstorms is advancing across Central New York and Northeast Pennsylvania this afternoon, carrying the potential for brief heavy downpours, small hail, and gusty winds that could impact the evening commute.

According to a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service in Binghamton, the system was moving eastward from a line extending from Utica and Ithaca, New York, to Troy, Pennsylvania. The main threats are rapid rainfall, with a quick quarter to a half-inch possible in under an hour, and strong wind gusts. Forecasters warn that these conditions could lead to isolated urban and poor drainage flooding, particularly in areas already saturated from recent rain.

The affected counties in New York include Madison, Southern Oneida, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga, Broome, Delaware, and Sullivan. In Pennsylvania, Bradford, Susquehanna, Northern and Southern Wayne, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Pike counties are in the path of the storms.

Residents outdoors this afternoon and evening are advised to be mindful of rapidly changing conditions. Motorists should be prepared for sudden downpours that could reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions on area roadways.

Officials advise listening to NOAA Weather Radio and local media for the latest updates as the situation develops. No watches or warnings have been issued, but further advisories could follow.
