New York, NY – The coldest air of the season is set to descend on New York City this weekend, bringing sub-freezing temperatures and scattered snow showers. Residents are urged to bundle up and prepare for icy conditions on Friday and Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will remain dry and mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-40s. However, a storm system will move into the region Friday, bringing a 50% chance of rain and snow showers by mid-morning. Temperatures will hover between 34 and 43 degrees during the day, but icy spots are possible by nightfall.
Saturday will see the chance of snow continuing into the morning before skies gradually clear. Highs will reach just 36 degrees before dropping sharply to a low of 21 overnight. Sunday is expected to be sunny but frigid, with daytime highs struggling to rise above 28 degrees and wind chills in the teens.
Drivers should exercise caution, particularly on bridges and overpasses, where icy patches could develop. Northeast winds of 10 to 17 mph will add to the chill on Saturday, further impacting road conditions.
Looking ahead, Monday will offer some reprieve with sunny skies and highs near 30 degrees. However, residents should prepare for a week of continued cold as winter settles in.
