Albany, N.Y. – Isolated thunderstorms could disrupt afternoon plans north and west of Albany this Memorial Day as a weak upper-level disturbance moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly across the Greater Capital Region northward into the Adirondacks and western New England. Most other areas will see partly sunny skies and gradually warming temperatures.

Terrain highs will reach the mid to upper 60s, while valley locations—including Albany, Hudson, and Schroon Lake—should climb into the upper 60s to low 70s by mid-afternoon. Outdoor events may proceed with few issues early, but those in northern counties like Warren, Saratoga, and Washington should monitor for lightning and brief downpours after 2 p.m.

Travelers headed into the mountains or along I-87 toward Glens Falls may encounter wet roads and reduced visibility in isolated cells. Organizers of outdoor gatherings should have shelter options ready and consider weather apps or NOAA radios for alerts.

The threat for storms diminishes by nightfall as conditions trend more seasonable into the week. Additional updates will follow if Monday’s system strengthens or expands in coverage.
