Buffalo, NY – Lake-effect snow will continue across western New York today, with heavy snowfall expected to create hazardous travel conditions. Accumulations south of Buffalo could exceed 12 inches, particularly along the I-90 and I-81 corridors. Drivers are urged to use caution as visibility will likely drop below a quarter mile at times.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snow bands will develop east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Tug Hill is expected to receive up to 18 inches by tonight. Winds reaching up to 25 mph could result in snowdrifts and icy roadways, further complicating travel.

Wednesday brings additional snow showers, with accumulations tapering off to 2–4 inches across most of the region. High temperatures will hover around 26°F, with wind chills making it feel much colder. Officials advise residents to limit non-essential travel and prepare for delays.

The extended forecast suggests Thursday could bring an additional round of snow, with an 80% chance of precipitation. By Friday, conditions may improve slightly with mostly cloudy skies, but snow showers remain a possibility into the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to clear driveways and sidewalks before temperatures drop further. Keep emergency kits in vehicles and check local advisories for updates. Those traveling on I-90 or I-81 should monitor road conditions and avoid peak snowfall hours when possible.
