Albany, NY – Residents across parts of the Adirondacks are urged to prepare for dangerously cold weather overnight. Wind chills as low as 25 below zero are forecasted, posing a severe frostbite and hypothermia risk.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory affects southeastern St. Lawrence, Southern Franklin, Western Clinton, and Western Essex counties from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Sunday. Wind chills on mountain peaks could drop below 30 degrees, creating extreme outdoor hazards.
Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in just 30 minutes. Officials recommend wearing layers, gloves, and hats if venturing outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Northern Warren and Hamilton counties will also experience similar conditions, with the advisory covering these areas through Sunday morning.
Residents are advised to avoid outdoor travel unless absolutely necessary. Use extreme caution with space heaters, and never use generators indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
