Albany, N.Y. – Scorching heat and thick humidity are set to grip much of eastern New York on Sunday, with heat index values nearing 98°F and actual highs in the mid-90s across the Capital Region and Upper Hudson Valley.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 6, for the Capital District, eastern and central Mohawk Valley, and portions of the Upper Hudson Valley. The advisory area includes cities like Albany, Glens Falls, Troy, and Schroon Lake.
Outdoor activities during peak heat hours are discouraged. The NWS warns of major heat risks, particularly for vulnerable populations without access to air conditioning. Those spending time outside should wear light clothing, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors.
The alert comes amid rising summer temperatures across the Northeast, with Sunday expected to mark one of the hottest days of the season so far in the region.
Conditions are expected to ease slightly Monday, though elevated heat and humidity may linger. Additional advisories could be issued if the pattern persists.
