Olean, N.Y. – Gardeners in western New York should take urgent action Sunday night as temperatures dip into the mid-30s, prompting a Frost Advisory across Cattaraugus and Allegany counties through early Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the advisory runs from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Monday, with the coldest readings expected in sheltered valley locations like those near Wellsville and Olean. Temperatures could drop just enough to cause patchy frost, threatening tender plants and outdoor gardens.

Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover sensitive vegetation with light cloths or plastic to avoid potential damage. While no road or travel hazards are expected, those in rural or agricultural areas should take extra precautions.

This marks one of the latest-season frost advisories in recent years for this region of western New York, where June typically signals the end of cold-weather threats. With summerlike warmth returning by midweek, the frost risk is expected to be short-lived.

Another advisory will be issued if conditions change, but for now, early Monday remains the window for potential frost damage.
