New York, NY – A widespread flood watch remains in effect across New York City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley as a slow-moving coastal storm dumps heavy rainfall on the region through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, storm totals could reach 1 to 2 inches, with isolated spots seeing up to 2.0 inches by early Saturday morning. Rainfall rates may exceed 1 inch per hour at times, leading to a heightened risk of flash flooding in poor drainage areas, low-lying streets, and small streams—especially in Queens, Brooklyn, and Westchester County.

Roadways in Midtown Manhattan, the Bronx, and parts of Long Island including Islip and Westhampton may experience rapid ponding, making travel hazardous during peak commute hours. The Still River in western Connecticut and the Housatonic River basin are also being monitored for potential minor river flooding. Areas like Paramus, NJ, and White Plains, NY, could see delays or disruptions to transit and school operations due to flooding.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets, clear storm drains where safe, and monitor local alerts. Charge devices in advance of any outages and move valuables off basement floors.

Rain continues through tonight, with the flood watch in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday. Additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
