New York, NY – Skies across the New York City metro area will turn increasingly cloudy by Friday morning, with rain chances rising steadily into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, sky cover is expected to climb past 90% in areas like Central Park, Danbury, and JFK Airport by early Friday, May 2. Cloud cover will persist through Sunday, with minimal breaks in overcast conditions and peak coverage reaching 96% in Manhattan and 94% at JFK.
The cloudiest conditions are expected Friday and Saturday afternoons. Locations such as West Milford, Newburgh, and White Plains will see sustained sky cover between 85–90%, while coastal zones like Montauk and New London trend slightly lower but remain over 70%.
Though widespread rainfall hasn’t been confirmed yet, residents should prepare for light showers or drizzle, especially during early morning and late evening hours through Sunday. The persistent cloud layer will also keep daytime temperatures cooler and limit solar heating.
Drivers should use headlights during daytime travel, and anyone planning outdoor activities may want to reschedule or bring rain gear. Energy customers may notice reduced solar generation if they rely on rooftop panels.
Cloudy conditions and scattered rain chances will continue through the weekend, with updated forecasts expected by Friday evening.
