New York, NY – A fast-moving thunderstorm is bringing dangerous 50 mph wind gusts across New York City, Hudson County, and parts of northeastern New Jersey this evening, threatening power outages and difficult travel through 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, the storm was spotted over Newark at 7:04 p.m., pushing east at 40 mph. Residents in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Jersey City, and nearby neighborhoods should expect sudden gusts strong enough to knock down tree limbs and toss unsecured outdoor items. Major travel corridors, including the approaches to Kennedy and LaGuardia airports, could see delays or temporary closures as the storm sweeps through.

In addition to city streets, impacts may be felt along the Hudson waterfront, Elizabeth, Flatbush, Flushing, and Forest Hills. If you’re outside or in a vehicle, consider sheltering indoors until the storm passes. Secure trash bins, patio furniture, and loose objects to prevent damage. Power crews and emergency services are on alert for downed lines or hazardous debris.

Winds are expected to ease after 7:30 p.m., but additional statements or warnings could be issued if the storm strengthens or changes course. Stay tuned for further updates as this line of storms tracks across the tri-state area.
