Binghamton, NY – Residents across central New York are facing a frigid start to the holiday week, with sub-zero wind chills and continued snow flurries through Tuesday. Roads are slick, and visibility is low, creating hazardous conditions for travelers.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s high temperature will peak near 16°F, while Monday brings a mix of sunshine and frigid air with highs around 27°F. Snow showers are likely Monday evening, with additional accumulation up to one inch. Areas prone to lake-effect snow may see intensified snowfall through early Tuesday.

Travelers heading out for the holidays are advised to exercise caution. Road crews have warned that salt treatments are less effective at these temperatures, leaving highways, including Interstate 81 and Route 17, dangerously icy. Wind chill values are expected to dip as low as -3°F tonight, with calm winds picking up slightly on Monday.

The extended forecast provides little relief. Tuesday will see highs near 37°F with a chance of rain and snow by the afternoon. Christmas Day, however, offers a reprieve with partly sunny skies and temperatures climbing to 35°F.

Officials recommend checking local forecasts before traveling and dressing in layers to prevent frostbite. Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather conditions to the National Weather Service.
