Gretna, Louisiana – Drivers, outdoor workers, and event organizers in southeast Louisiana should brace for scattered thunderstorms and steamy 89°F heat by early Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop after 1 p.m. Thursday, particularly across Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. Lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds could disrupt commutes on I-10 and local roads. The strongest storms may trigger brief street flooding, especially in low-lying neighborhoods.

By Thursday evening, skies are expected to clear, but residents should stay weather-aware and plan indoor alternatives for afternoon activities. Calm morning winds will shift southerly later in the day, adding to the muggy, storm-fueled atmosphere.

Friday brings another round of possible afternoon storms, with the chance of precipitation rising to 60%. Expect highs near 91°F and increased discomfort due to humidity. Into the weekend, Saturday looks mostly sunny, but another round of showers and thunderstorms could return late in the day and again Sunday afternoon.

More alerts could be issued if instability increases Thursday or Friday. Stay tuned to NWS New Orleans for updates.
