A dense fog advisory is in effect for southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi until 9 a.m. Friday, reducing visibility and creating dangerous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, visibility has dropped to one-quarter mile or less in areas including New Orleans, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Slidell. Affected parishes and counties include St. John the Baptist, St. Bernard, Orleans, Jefferson, and Plaquemines in Louisiana, as well as Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson counties in Mississippi.

Motorists should use caution, keep headlights on low beam, and allow extra travel time. The advisory warns of sudden visibility changes, especially near bodies of water and low-lying areas.

The fog is expected to dissipate by mid-morning as temperatures rise. Travelers can check with the Louisiana and Mississippi Departments of Transportation for real-time road conditions.
