New Orleans, LA – Snow and sleet are affecting southern Louisiana today, with daytime highs struggling to surpass 31°F. The National Weather Service reports hazardous travel conditions across the region as winter weather warnings remain in effect.

According to the National Weather Service, snow, mixed with sleet, will taper off by late afternoon. Accumulations between 3 and 7 inches of snow are possible in some areas. Wind chill values are expected to drop as low as 17°F, with gusts up to 30 mph.

While the extreme cold remains a concern tonight, conditions are set to improve midweek. Highs will reach 36°F on Wednesday under sunny skies, with warmer temperatures expected by Thursday. The region could see highs climbing into the low 40s, providing relief from freezing conditions.

Residents are urged to remain cautious when traveling and to check for updates on road closures. Those without adequate heating should seek local warming shelters.

Warmer weather is expected to persist through the weekend, with highs nearing 47°F by Friday.
