Gretna, Louisiana – A round of strong afternoon storms could bring lightning, heavy rain, and brief travel delays across southeast Louisiana by Wednesday, June 4.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 1 p.m. Wednesday across the greater Gretna and New Orleans metro. Winds from the east at 5–10 mph and humid conditions will drive temperatures to a high near 87°F. Thunderstorms may produce localized street flooding or downed limbs, particularly along heavily traveled corridors like I-10 and I-610.

By Wednesday night, skies will clear with lows around 75°F, setting the stage for a humid, storm-threatened stretch through the weekend. Thursday brings another round of storms, again favoring the afternoon hours. Friday tops out at 91°F with a 50% chance of storms continuing. Expect muggy conditions, possible lightning delays, and short-notice weather changes—especially during commutes and outdoor events.

Residents should remain weather-aware through Saturday, when the pattern continues with storm chances persisting into Sunday. Keep devices charged, avoid driving through flooded streets, and monitor NWS alerts.

More updates are expected if thunderstorm risks increase.
