Silver City, NM – A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of central Grant County, including Silver City, as well as the Southern Gila Region Highlands and Black Range. Snowfall is expected to begin Thursday night and continue into Friday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, the advisory will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday. Forecasts predict total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible at elevations above 7,000 feet. Strong winds may also lead to extensive tree damage and further impact travel.

Motorists should anticipate slippery roads and reduced visibility, particularly during the Friday morning commute. The NWS advises travelers to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel. Residents are encouraged to check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting the New Mexico Department of Transportation website for updates.

This late-season snowstorm follows a period of mild weather, underscoring the unpredictable nature of March in the region. Residents should prepare for possible disruptions and secure outdoor items susceptible to strong winds.
