El Paso, TX – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of southern New Mexico, bringing snow and dangerous winds to the region through Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, the Sacramento Mountains above 7,500 feet, including Cloudcroft, Apache Summit, and Sunspot, will see 1 to 3 inches of snow. Winds are expected to gust as high as 70 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for extensive tree damage. The advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. MDT Friday.
Further west, areas including Silver City, Fort Bayard, and Kingston in Grant County and the Southern Gila Region will also experience snowfall. These locations could receive similar accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with higher totals above 7,000 feet. The advisory for these areas extends until 9 a.m. MDT Friday, potentially affecting the morning commute.
Officials warn that blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, and icy roads may create dangerous driving conditions. Travelers are advised to slow down and exercise caution. Residents can check updated road conditions by calling 511.
