Roswell, NM – Gusty winds up to 55 mph will create hazardous conditions in southeastern New Mexico on Friday, with blowing dust reducing visibility and making travel dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque, strong winds will affect areas along U.S. 285 and I-25, with the Roswell Metro seeing the most significant dust storms. Drivers should prepare for sudden visibility drops, especially in open areas prone to dust accumulation. Winds this strong can also cause minor property damage and make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles.

Despite Friday’s blustery conditions, a warming trend will take over the state through the weekend. Roswell will see a high of 57°F on Friday before climbing into the mid-60s by Saturday and nearing 70°F on Sunday. Northern areas, including Santa Fe and Taos, will start the weekend cooler, but temperatures will steadily rise into the 50s by Sunday.

The extended forecast shows dry and sunny conditions continuing into early next week, with Monday’s temperatures approaching record highs. Travelers and residents should take precautions against dust storms Friday but can look forward to a mild and pleasant weekend ahead.
