Albuquerque, NM – Periodic snow showers are creating hazardous conditions across central New Mexico today, with slick roads becoming a concern for drivers. The National Weather Service warns that icy patches may develop, particularly along major roadways like I-25 and I-40.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow accumulation of up to two inches is possible through the afternoon, with temperatures hovering near 30°F. Snowfall is expected to taper off by evening, but freezing temperatures will persist, potentially worsening road conditions overnight. Officials urge drivers to reduce speeds, increase following distances, and avoid using cruise control on icy surfaces.
Tonight, the low will drop to 17°F with partly cloudy skies. By Tuesday, mostly sunny weather is expected, with a high near 43°F and calmer winds. However, overnight temperatures will plunge to 15°F, keeping roads icy in some areas. Wednesday and Thursday bring similar sunny conditions with highs reaching the mid-40s, providing a gradual thaw, but nighttime lows will remain below freezing.
Looking ahead, the region could see a slight chance of snow flurries by Saturday. Drivers and residents should remain cautious throughout the week, as thawing and refreezing cycles may lead to continued slippery conditions.
