Santa Fe, NM – A late-season snow system continues to sweep across central and western New Mexico, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6 p.m. MDT Saturday. The National Weather Service warns of slick roads and limited visibility across several major travel corridors, including stretches of I-40 and I-25.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, snow accumulations of up to two inches are expected in the Estancia Valley, Chaves County Plains, and the West Central and Northwest Highlands. The Santa Fe Metro area could see up to one inch of additional snow. Winds in Chaves County may gust as high as 35 mph, causing localized blowing snow and further reducing visibility.

Travelers are urged to slow down and use extra caution, particularly along highways 285, I-40, and I-25 where snow-packed or icy conditions are likely. Tree branches may be impacted by gusty winds in southern and eastern parts of the state.

Residents should monitor road conditions by calling 511 or visiting nmroads.com. Extra travel time, winter gear in vehicles, and reduced speed are recommended for safe passage during this advisory window.

The advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday as conditions gradually improve by evening.
