Albuquerque, N.M. – Severe thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across Albuquerque Monday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, scattered lightning, and a risk of heavy rain through Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, strong storms are expected to develop after 3 p.m. Monday, with a 30% chance of severe cells capable of producing damaging winds. Storms will continue into the evening and overnight hours, particularly between 9 p.m. and midnight. Winds may reach up to 20 mph during peak storm activity.

Communities across Bernalillo County and surrounding areas, including Rio Rancho and Los Lunas, should stay alert for sudden weather changes. Drivers on I-25 and I-40 could encounter brief downpours and gusty crosswinds. Power outages and minor flash flooding are also possible in isolated locations.

Temperatures will remain hot, with highs near 89°F Monday and 87°F Tuesday, adding to the potential for storm development. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge devices, and avoid travel during active storm periods.

Storm chances continue at 40% Tuesday afternoon and evening before clearing midweek. Sunny and hotter conditions return Wednesday, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s.
