Albuquerque, New Mexico – Residents in eastern and central New Mexico should prepare for a challenging weather combination of severe thunderstorms and intense heat Sunday and Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Albuquerque, severe storms are likely Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. and Monday between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. across areas including Tucumcari, Ruidoso, Roswell, and Clovis. Primary threats include locally heavy rainfall, cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, and small hail.

Meanwhile, intense heat will impact Albuquerque, Socorro, and Roswell, with temperatures reaching triple digits, peaking between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day. Socorro is forecasted to hit highs of 104°F by midweek, significantly increasing heat-related illness risks.

Residents are urged to seek indoor shelter during storms, remain hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors and family members. Motorists should stay vigilant for sudden downpours that could reduce visibility and cause flash flooding on roadways.

The severe weather threat will begin to decrease by midweek; however, heat advisories may persist. Stay tuned to local news and official weather channels for further updates and advisories.
