Albuquerque, N.M. – A surge of afternoon and evening storms will bring gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning across central and eastern New Mexico through Monday, with the highest chances of precipitation in places like Santa Fe, Clovis, and Tucumcari.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, daily rain chances will rise steadily, peaking between Friday and Sunday. Some areas—particularly Angel Fire, Ruidoso, and Los Alamos—could see precipitation odds reach up to 80%, with the potential for cloud-to-ground lightning and locally higher rainfall totals between 0.50 to 1.00 inches.

Roswell and Clovis may experience stormy evenings with up to a 55% chance of rain by Saturday night, while Albuquerque’s highest chance hovers around 60% heading into Sunday. Storm impacts include reduced visibility, slick roads, and isolated power outages caused by lightning or wind gusts.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and check weather alerts before heading out, especially during late-day commutes. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, charge electronics, and prepare for brief but intense downpours.

The storm system is expected to linger through Monday afternoon. Additional watches or warnings may be issued if conditions worsen later this week.
