Santa Rosa, NM – A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms has been forecast across eastern New Mexico on Friday, with areas including Las Vegas, Clines Corners, Tucumcari and Roswell potentially impacted.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the risk is expected to develop between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. MDT on Friday, May 30. The threat zone includes key transit corridors such as Interstate 25 around Las Vegas, Interstate 40 from Clines Corners to Tucumcari, and U.S. Highway 285 from Clines Corners to Roswell.

Forecasters say the most likely hazard is strong wind gusts, with a slight chance of large hail and localized flooding from heavy rainfall. The chance of tornadoes remains very low, but residents are urged to stay alert and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

The storms are anticipated to move east-northeast across the affected region throughout the afternoon and evening. While the overall forecast confidence is moderate, local impacts could still be significant where storms develop and intensify.

Drivers traveling through the affected corridors should remain cautious, as weather conditions may rapidly deteriorate. The National Weather Service advises monitoring local forecasts and being prepared for changing weather, especially in rural areas with limited shelter options.

Updates will continue as the forecast evolves. For the latest information, visit weather.gov/abq or follow the NWS Albuquerque on social media.
