New Mexico Summer Weather Alert: Scattered Thunderstorms May Hit Albuquerque by 3 p.m. Sunday

Albuquerque, New Mexico – Thunderstorms could bring sudden downpours and lightning to parts of Albuquerque by mid-afternoon Sunday, July 6, with the strongest cells expected between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers on I-25 and throughout Bernalillo County should be ready for reduced visibility, slick roads, and possible delays.

According to the National Weather Service, isolated storms will develop early in the afternoon, with another round expected between 5 p.m. and midnight. Winds will shift northeast around 10 mph as temperatures soar near 100°F before storms arrive. The chance of precipitation Sunday is 20%, increasing to 30% Sunday night.

Expect continued storm activity into Monday, July 7. A slight chance of thunderstorms returns by midday Monday, with additional cells possible after 1 p.m. Highs remain hot near 99°F. Monday night brings yet another 20% chance of storms after 9 p.m., with temps cooling to 67°F.

  • Sunday: High 100°F — Isolated thunderstorms after 3 p.m., possible again after 5 p.m.
  • Monday: High 99°F — Slight chance of storms midday and again late night.

  • Wednesday: High 104°F — Continued heat, mostly clear skies.
  • Thursday: High 104°F — Slight storm chance returns (20%) in the afternoon.
