Albuquerque, New Mexico – Rain returns to the Rio Grande Valley just in time to complicate midweek plans, as Albuquerque prepares for thunderstorms Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will increase Wednesday afternoon, with a 40% chance of rainfall by noon and isolated thunderstorms developing through the evening. Rain could affect visibility and slick road conditions along Interstate 25 and I-40, especially during the evening commute. Storm activity is expected to diminish by midnight, but the roads may remain wet into early Thursday.

Temperatures will climb to around 68°F on Wednesday, with winds shifting from the northeast at 5 mph, helping pull in moisture from the east. While Wednesday night’s thunder threat is low (20% chance), lightning and gusty winds are still possible in isolated areas, especially between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Thursday brings a springtime reset with sunny skies and a high of 74°F. Calm, dry conditions are expected through Friday, where highs will jump to near 79°F, ushering in a much warmer end to the week.

Here’s a look ahead at the 5-day extended forecast:

  • Thursday: Sunny, high near 74°F
  • Friday: Sunny, high near 79°F
  • Saturday: 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms, high near 77°F
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high near 80°F
